Do not raise your children the way your parents raised you; they were born for a different time.

This is the concept, and final cover art I created for Public Enemy. The track is called “ICE Breaker”.

Some people asked me why I portrayed Geronimo in this manner.

Let me start by saying; Geronimo was labeled the first “Public Enemy #1” by the US government and Military, so on that aspect alone it seemed only fitting due to what Public Enemy and the track this cover is for represents and stands for.

Geronimo is also a great hero of mine, he endured through many hardships, and in many ways; his strength and determination inspires me and gives me strength. Being of Blackfoot, Lakotah, and Ojibwe ancestry I too resonate with Geronimo and his struggle, because the struggle is also my own. Since I was young I traveled back and forth with family to visit family across the border, after 911 the US & Canadian Government demanded I get a passport to travel to and visit my family and ancestral lands. I also rejected being forced to live on a native reservation which many of us Native Americans & First Nations call prisoner of war camps… This decision was extremely hard for me cause it meant not being able to learn my native languages and cultures and being an urban Indian living in the city I often feel disconnected and alone in my struggle. I’ve also been denied entrance in and out of Mexico, USA and Canada; denied my right to live and work in North America where I please. So I fight the powers that be; not with war tactics, instead I utilize my voice through my words, art and utilize the systems own laws in a constructive manner. The struggle is difficult, but I continue to create art that is meaningful to help good causes even if it causes controversy or people dislike what I create or what cause I create for.

Listen to the “Public Enemy - ICE BREAKER” track, it’s a very complex song containing many verses and perspectives on the issue about Immigration & the US/Mexico border.

My take on it required me to do some research and look back at history… Geronimo and his warriors were the Original Homeland Security; they fought off both the US and Mexican army successfully defending their homeland for many years, till Geronimo surrendered and attempted to adapt to life on a reservation far away from his ancestral territory… Many times, he wanted to go back, but he was always denied to do so by the US military and government. That is why I depicted Geronimo in handcuffs and held on either side by ICE border agents, It depicts true history with a modern twist and signifies that Geronimo’s struggle when he was alive 1829-1909. Even after his death he was denied burial in New Mexico Arizona/Sonora and was buried in Oklahoma. To make matters worse, Geronimo’s grave was desecrated and his Skull was stolen by Skull and Bones members, one of the perpetrators was Prescott Bush, G.W. Bush Sr’s father and G.W. Bush Jr’s grandfather. The Skull and Bones society (criminals) to this day deny it, but Geronimo’s grandchildren and great grandchildren know that they did and have been demanding that they give them Geronimo’s skull back to be properly buried so that his spirit can rest.

Past meets present, the indigenous struggle of yesterday still exists today in 2014 with the racist laws the US government put in place and the I.C.E. Border Agents arresting people they deem to be illegal’s; this is wrong for many reasons, one of which is they are also arresting indigenous peoples and denying them all of their right to live on and travel through their own homeland.

It’s hard to believe 500 years have passed since we native people discovered Columbus; the genocide against us from that encounter continues to this day and it must stop.

Remember; if you are not an Indigenous person of North America, you or your family came from somewhere else and you are on Native land and just because governments draw lines in the sand and say it’s their land, it isn’t; Hundreds of native tribes and over 80 Million people lived here for thousands of years before empire came to this continent uninvited.

First nations and Native Americans are survivors and although our numbers are no longer in the tens of millions due to genocide we suffered, we are still here and we are still fighting for justice, for each other, for the planet and all living things.

You might not be native of North America but if you call it home, stop letting the powers that be divide and conquer humanity, for we are all related and our future depends on us (all colors of humanity) uniting. If we don’t stop Empire, it’s only a matter of time that empire turns on it’s own citizens, including you and your people and commits another genocide.

So ask yourself, what side are you on? Empire’s or Humanity? We are all human beings and regardless of our color or ancestry, we must all unite and fight against racist and unconstitutional laws such as SB1070.
